Chapter 11

A traditional audiovisual technology is the talking book.  The talking book provides an auditory dimension to texts. It can be used in grades K-12.  I could use this for students who have a hard time understanding what they are reading while they read.  This gives students anotehr way to learn written texts.  An emerging audiovisual technology that can be used in the classroom is Internet Radio.  Internet radio uses the Internet to offer online radio stations; consisting of a wide variety of programming including music, sports, science, and local, national, and world news. This can be used in almost any classroom. As a special education teacher it could be used as an alternative to teaching from a book.

A traditional digital technology in the classroom is an overhead projector.  Teachers create visuals on transparencies to project on the overhead.  I would use the projector in my classroom for students who have trouble seeing. Also students can use the projector when doing class projects.  An emerging digital technology is a document camera.  A document camera is similar to an overhead, but it displays real time 3-D objects and gives a better display of the picture. This can also be used for students who have trouble seeing. I would use this to project objects for all to see or to simply project homework sheets or examples from the text books.

Chapter 6

Question: Based on the information in chapter 6, would you prefer to teach in a classroom that had more or less digital technologies? Why or why not?

I would prefer to teach in a classroom that has more rather than less digital technologies.  Through my own experiences of being in classrooms with many different types of technologies I have learned that the posibilities are endless when it comes to useing technology in the class room.  Teachers are able to use much more variety in their classroom through technology.  As it says in chapter 6, once you have computer systems in the classroom, the possibilities for expanding their capabilities by the addition of digital peripherals are enormous. Although there can be difficulties from having technology in the classroom, there are many more benefits from having technology. All students learn differntly and technology provides teachers with ways to help each student learn.
